Sangani gets a sit-down with Warren Buffett

Cardiologist Bharat Sangani, who developed the commercial area along Sangani Boulevard in D’Iberville, can cross “do dinner with Warren Buffett” off his bucket list. Sangani talks about what it was like to have dinner with Buffett, chairman of Berkshire Hathaway and one of the world’s wealthiest people, in the latest newsletter for Encore Enterprises, the real estate development company Sangani founded.

“It was a tremendous honor to meet Mr. Buffett in person,” Sangani said. “As a client of Berkadia, a Berkshire Hathaway company, I was invited to an appreciation event where Mr. Buffett attended and interacted with me and a host of other clients. He and I talked for a bit in regards to how Dallas was considered a good business market, as well as my work as a physician and as a real estate businessman.”

Both men are successful entrepreneurs and investors and Sangani said Buffett has “a humorous and candid personality.” They have different styles of conducting business.

“What struck me as most interesting was that he does not use a computer to complete his tasks,” Sangani said. “He still reads his companies’ reports every day by fax.” Sangani said he is a more tech-savvy executive. “Yet, despite our different preferences in our work methods, we shared similar values in how we as executives should trust our employees and give them some freedom to operate our companies in the best and most efficient way possible,” Sangani said.

He continues to develop in D’Iberville, and his company has signed two new tenants at Lakeview Village. Twin Peaks sports bar and restaurant opened in June and Academy Sports is under construction and is expected to be completed in time for holiday shopping. Encore Restaurants, a subsidiary of Encore Enterprises, is building IHOP restaurants in Laurel and Brookhaven and is expanding to other states including California, where Encore opened several Five Guys restaurants.
